The Student Discovery Series

Featuring six world-class dance performances that educate, excite and illuminate

We invite you and your group to join us for our 2016-17 NextMove Student Discovery Series at the Prince Theater in Philadelphia. We’ve offered 32 years of inspiring arts education programs through our Dance Celebration series. Our new dance series, NextMove Dance, continues this tradition of excellence introducing local students and teachers to some of the world’s best dance companies.

Dance engages students in activities that focus on problem solving, teamwork, and critical thinking. Young audiences will be awed by how these world-class dancer/athletes express themselves through movement language. Programs address laws of motion, physics, mathematics, history, geography, life skills, earth science, technology and cultural studies. Educators can effectively connect the performance to the curriculum to fulfill standards while helping to cultivate the next generation of artists and advocates.

This year’s program includes dances connected to STEAM, works based on literature, powerful imagery, dances that tackle issues such as war, and works using comedy to make a point. Dance, a universal language, activates the imagination and is open to multiple interpretations providing young audience with lifelong tools.

  • Programs are one hour long and include a special talk-back session with the company
  • Performances take place on Fridays at 10:30am*
  • Programs include a complimentary study guide tailored to the performance that provides insights to the work, curriculum links, fun activities and background information
  • Performances take place at The Prince Theater, 1412 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA.
  • For every 20 student tickets purchased, groups receive one free chaperone ticket
